John A. Hoda is a former Police Officer, Insurance Fraud Investigator and for the past 26 years has run a successful Private Investigations business. Many of his cases made the headlines of the Philadelphia Inquirer and the New Haven Register. John is an award-winning writer with 18 books published to thousands of readers. He graduated in 1975 with a B.S. in Criminology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. 

John was a judge for the Shamus award, sat as a panelist and was feted as a debut novelist at the Mystery Writer’s Association in 2019 in Dallas, TX. The FBI agent Marsha O’Shea Series was published in 2020 The Gwendolyn Strong Small Town Traditional Mystery Series launched in 2022 with a free short story collection added in 2023

He was the show runner of the My Favorite Detective Stories podcast, He interviewed best-selling and award-winning Crime Fiction writers. Guests have included Joseph Wambaugh, Steve Berry, Robert Dugoni, Sheldon Siegel and Lisa Gray.

He has written numerous articles for PI Magazine and other publications and has created the DVD: The Ultimate Guide to Taking Statements. He is a frequent guest blogger and webinar presenter on Investigative Interviewing.

John has sat on the boards of the both the National Association of Legal Investigators and the CT Assoc. of Licensed Private Investigators. He is a Certified Legal Investigator and a retired Certified Fraud Examiner.

He answered the writing muse in 2013 with his debut novel: Second Chance at Bat It is a story of an average Joe that though luck and circumstance get a one in a million chance to play in the Major Leagues.

Through the years, He told his stories about his latest cases over coffee, at parties or at dinner engagements. Told repeatedly to write them down, he finally did with Mugshots: My Favorite Detective Stories.

John has been a lifetime athlete, playing club soccer and semi-professional football, running marathons and bicycling long distance. His creative activities also include writing, producing and acting in amateur theater.
